As part of the Strand-Capitol’s ongoing commitment to being a cultural leader in the community, we are proud to partner with organizations across the region to foster the continued development of arts and culture.


York Symphony Orchestra

The York Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1933 and is comprised of approximately 80 professional musicians. The YSO’s season contains a mix of classical and pops concerts, world renowned guest artists, educational programs and community outreach efforts. In the 1950s the York Symphony Orchestra Chorus was formed and continues to perform concerts each season with the Orchestra.


York Junior Symphony Orchestra

Orchestra comprised of approximately 100 players in grades 5 through 8 offers an opportunity to play with an accomplished orchestra while developing their musical skills. Members are chosen through audition and includes string, woodwind, brass, percussion sections, String Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.


York Youth Symphony Orchestra

The orchestra features about 70 musicians from grades 9 through 12, chosen through an audition process. The symphony was founded in 1957 and includes string, woodwind, brass and percussion sections. Three public concerts as well as two educational concerts are presented each year along with a Concerto Competition.


York County Honors Choirs

The York County Senior Honors Choir was established in 1998, and it has grown in reputation and size since that time, now including over 100 10th through 12th grade singers, representing all of York County’s school districts. Five years later, the Junior Honors Choir was started, and this group now consists of over 100 7th through 9th graders.

Nonprofit Center for Dance Education
As resident dance company of the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, Greater York Dance and Midstate Ballet provide educational opportunities and performances to the public including the Nutcracker Ballet held each December at the Strand-Capitol and Spring and June events.  Under the Artistic Direction of Lori Pergament, R.D.E., the center offers dance experiences for all ages, levels and aspirations.
